Our Vision
Embodied in Color is a vision created by two BIPOC women-led organizations to reclaim what mental health and wellness means for BIPOC clinicians.
Who heals the healers?
According to the American Psychological Association, in 2015, just 14% of psychologists in the United States workforce identified as BIPOC or multiracial.
In a field where enduring theory and treatment modalities continue to rely on a Eurocentric conceptualization of history, and where BIPOC representation is far too scarce, we quickly recognized an imperative need for affinity spaces to support BIPOC mental health professionals through their own healing journeys.
Reclaiming our ancestral wisdoms
Through this conference, we hope to showcase a wide variety of healing practices rooted in the traditional wisdoms of different cultural backgrounds.
All workshops are created and led by BIPOC providers, for BIPOC providers. This will be an experiential safe space for BIPOC providers to engage, share, and heal in community.
Creating parallel processes of healing
While we anticipate the one-day conference will be a welcome reprieve for BIPOC providers to enjoy a deep healing experience for themselves, it is our hope that the experience will endure beyond the conference itself into the treatment room. When healers learn to care for themselves, they will have the capacity to create a much more powerful impact on their communities.
